1. What were your first steps in music?
When I was 7, when I started writting songs and made gigs… At home. I told my brother and father to sit on the sofa and said: ‘You are the audience and you’re only two, so you have to plaudit so loud, so it seems there’s much more people!’ I used to sing everything, from Celine Dion to Fangoria, or my own songs, that were so dramatic. Mi dad used to press the piano pedal because I couldn’t, my legs were too small. I used to wear my mom’s lingerie that was too big for me, a boa and her jewels, I maked my lips up and my mic was pink and it didn’t seem too serious, I took a part of a chair, that was black with some crystals and it seemed more professional.
Some time before, I used to feel ashamed while reading my first songs, but now I understand. They’re really inspiring to me because I remember how I felt when I thought people were able to do whatever they wanted when they grew up.
My mom always said to me: ‘If you study, you’ll be able to be whatever you want’, and I believed it. I don’t understand why she’s so surprised now. I don’t want to think it was a lie so, now that I’m older, I do what I want!
It’s great because, some way, they make me believe the worst is gone. I’m determined to follow those songs and live my life as I dreamt of.
Then, I started to feel interested by dancing and other music styles. Until I got to take some lessons. I used to sing all day long, went with older people dancing break, played with my uncle’s piano and I even started playing drums.
It wasn’t until 2008 when I decided to leave everything for music, and since then, I’m happy.
2. How would you define your music?
It’s my biggest expression weapon. It makes me feel free and powerful, and that’s the reason why sometimes I don’t answer this question, because it depends on the day, I can be anything. I feel realy great doing rock, pop, dance or really dramatic ballads. I can’t take everything to the same place. I feel it, I take it out and then they say: ‘How do you want to put all this with the other stuff?’. So I put that songs as singles… and still waiting to reunite some material that could represent me… At least most of the time.
Now I’m finding my own style. Generally I want to release a potent and possitive, quite dramatic and sarcastic album. My music is authentic and genuine. BassOn always says my songs are white. He means they’re honest, it’s his ellegant way to say I’m rude.
3. What artists have influenced yourself?
Michael Jackson has inspired my whole life. I was born in 1985, so I’m realy fan of everything my parents used to play when we were on the car at that time: Bee Gees, Abba, Madonna, Roxette, Boney M., Springsteen, Fangoria, Cindy Lauper, Prince, Queen. .
Then I started to listen to rock music as AC/DC, Metallica or Foo Fighters, and 90’s, specially BackStreet Bous and groups that were on Super Pop. You know? I’m so upset now that they’ve closed that magazine, I used to dream with being on it!
And everything mixed up with my passion for jazz, zarzuela, blues and musicals. I’m really fan of ‘Chicago’, ‘Grease’, ‘Rent’, ‘Hair’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Saturday Night Fever’…
4. Is image that important to have a musical career?
I think it’s important, but real, authentic, that expresses what you really are, that you feel comfortable and people respect you because they understand that it’s just you. Whan an artist has to wear something they don’t want, people notice it. Sometimes they try to let me know I should wear more clothes, as it what would make people respect me a little more, but I don’t feel ok with that. Truly, I’m like that, and I’ve always been. I’d feel ridiculous weating trousers and a shirt. I respect it, and I think it’s great for the ones that feel good like that, but I left fashion, now I’m not told what to wear.
Anyway, I think if there isn’t a good musical job, image doesn’t matter, because it won’t be ok. Try to keep a project in an image, it’s just a big mistake.
5. Other artists have confessed that Internet has made everyone equal. Do you really think the same?
Not exactly. I think it gives some kind of advantage to people who is starting or the ones that don’t have a big multinational supponrting behind, but obviously a big investment behind a discographical work, gives it a biggest stability and more chances for a project, so it’s not equal.
Anyway, there are different examples: there’s people that have done it really well by digital platforms, and there are many artists that couldn’t reach success none with digital platforms, neither with a multinational behind.
I personally only believe in good done job. I think this really put everyone in the same point because, at least, the audience chooses and Internet is a way to be heard. It really depends on the production. As everyting I like, mine is expensive.
Anyway, what I like about the Internet is the chance to keep in touch with the warriors. I don’t have much time but if I get into my blog, I always know they’re there. It’s great to know they’re always with me if I don’t forget the iPhone.
6. What can you tell us about your experience with Armani, Valentino, Versace, Schwarzkopf, L’Oreal?
It was great at that time… Sometimes. I love clothes, shoes, accessories, beauty products… But I prefer being a consumer than make the commercials.
It’s a hard and really competitive work. There’s a lot of great people, but also really evirl, and I never got to feel really well, specially because you cannot be yourself. I hate feeling like I’m wearing a costume. I think I was too sensitive to stand it and… Obviously I wasn’t always well. Anyway, I have never failed myself.
I enjoy a lot the photoshoots and I love the runways, but it was really hard. I wasn’t really confident about myself and being small in comparison with the other girls was humilliating, or they made it be like that. But, with flashes on, they dissapeared.
I also have to say I was very lucky about the professionals I have found in this way. For good or bad, fashion has marked me so much.
7. What has music and fashion in common?
Maybe it seems they’re united because you have to make photoshoots, magazines, etc, but they have nothing in common.
In the photoshoots, I used to play part as women in that outfits. Now I’m myself and wear what I want! I have so much fun and do believe people can notice it. I’m very lucky because of the people that surrounds me because they respect me, understand me, support… We’re really united and that’s really important.
As a model, you travel a lot, but it’s not stable. I’m really familiar and missed a lot my people. Now I travel a lot more, but I’m always with them. I feel better like that.
What they both have in common is that the worse, for me, was de beginning. I don’t want this to me misinterpretated, I know I0m starting in music, but I mean the firt moments until you have your team. When you get to know people that are doing well in this job, you understand that the ones that last are the professionals, but you can find everything along the way. I’m not saying that all the ones that don’t get it aren’t professionals, but the ones that get there, they’re all. In music it’s easier to avoid, but anyway I believe I was very lucky about the people I’ve worked with. I have really good friends in both worlds.
My conversations with warrios are now much more exciting not. We have links, common feelings… I feel much more loved and our relationship is mores authentic.
Music is much complex and, despite my music is fashion, I do think fashion needs music, and music makes tendences.
8. What do you ask for future?
The chance to creat exactly the album I’ve always wanted and show it to a lot of people live. I mean, sing!

You started since you were very young as a model, and in the meantime receiving lessons to be a dancer and writting songs. Was it the real dream?
It’s THE DREAM. Every single thing I’ve done in my life was for this, and everythins has brought me here. Music has always been beside me. The best of my dream is that, no matter how hard it gets or if there’s nobody to show it up to, nobody can forbide me writting songs, singing or dancing. When I was younger, I used to leave home without my mother’s permission to do it with the breakers, until she noticed and took me to take some lessons. I need it, no matter if there’s an audience, lights or flashes. I spend the whole day doing it!
You came into the fashion industry because of an accident. Do you think your are a lucky person? (The journalist uses a Spanish expression that would be something like: “Do you think you have a star behind you?”)
My fans gave me a star with my name as a present, so literally, yes! :)
Seriously, I think I’m a lucky girl ’cause I know what I want and I’m determined to get it. The way to it wasn’t easy, nothing was given to me easily, and I would probably say I was in the worst situation, more than any other person, so the option of not trying it doesn’t exist.
When people say I got into fashion by an accident and stuff like that, it seems I’m here by casualty, but the truth is that the accident was a real drama. In few years I broke my feet twice in five different sides, had problems with food, grew up spending too much time alone and suffer from insomnia, anxiety and five fobias. Everything in my life has always been so extreme.
Don’t know if I’m lucky, but if I think of it, getting the point I am right now it’s a miracle itself. Everything I have has costed me everything I had.
Matt Shefield was the talent-hunter that saw you. What does he mean to you? What do you remember of that moment?
I remember I was going back home after breaking my foot, and my momm brought me those beautiful shiny stilettos as a present. I tried them and started to walk down the hospital. My doctor was a very important sports doctor, and everytime I went there I used to be with artists, sportsman, famous people, and I have to recognize I loved it.
That day he went with a friend and found me walking with my new stilettos while my dad went to take the car. He stopped me and asked: ‘Are you a model?’ I said yes and he continued: ‘Do you want to be?’ and then I asked: ‘Will you pay me well?’. He said he would if I passed the audition, and, even with my mother’s dissaproval, I did. I passed the audition with that shoes, which were the only ones I had and I haven’t ever touched them since then because I think they bring me luck and I don’t want to break them!
I was 14, until then I had only made two commercials and one photoshoot when younger, and he took me to a studio with photographer Víctor Cucart, and Gloria Farr that was after that my stylist. She took a Versace, Bagaglia made my make up and I made my first photoshoot. I was that nervous that I decided not to do it again. I broke my promise when I saw the money.
I told Matt that I would spend the money on releasing my first album and I made half of it. I decided the best was paying the degree and become a producer, and then release the album. Everything took a little more time than what I have planned when I was 14.
Why do you want to be in music industry right now that it’s so hard?
Because I can’t give up on making my dream come true, no matter how hard it gets.
The reality is that I haven’t came into music, it’s just that now I have the chance to do it and show it. I’ve always been ‘the girl in the headphones’. I went everywhere wearing them and with my notebook, but that was all. Now there’s people listening.
I have to still believe I can do it. Not trying would be the worst option, I would disspoint myself and many people that believe in me. I need music, it’s my lifestyle, it’s the way I express myself…
What do you expect of your musical career?
In a personal level, I want to feel free, but the most important is leaving something good in this world. I’d love to make somebody happy, if it was only just one person I would feel great. I would love that somebody decided to go on because of my music, the same way I did with Michael Jackson’s music, that somebody fell in love with one of my songs or that one of the silly things I write would make somebody fall in love with another one. I was very happy the day a girl said to me that ‘Stupid Groupie’ is her favourite song. I never forget anybody’s face when they say something like that to me.
You had a music teacher who said you would never be able to do this. What would you say to him?
I would be very polite saying nothing, but the day he said that in front of all my classmates whas horrible to me.
We made a psychological test that showed up our skills, just to choose the lessons we wanted to take for the next year. I was the only one who had the test that showed artistical skills, and he recommended me it was better for me to forget about it. He said that, to be an artist, you needed to know someone, be beautiful and rich. I insisted a lot that I would be an artist one day, and that I would sing, because I loved it and was good at it.
When I went back home, some girls hit me and broke my discman, my biggest treasure at that time, and Michael Jackson’s ‘History Book 1′. It scratched and I went back home just been able to listen to ‘You are not alone’. I held my tears until I was in my room for my mother not to notice.
After releasing ‘Irresistible’, I went one day to the school and left the single and a picture of my yearbook with a note that said: ‘I told you’. Maybe it wasn’t ok, but it was like if I had avoided another hitting some years before, because I don’t really know what happened. I wasn’t really popular, but I didn’t piss anyone off, so I didn’t understand anything. Now I understand. Knowing what I am and what I want to do, makes me much powerful.
What is the best of your time in fashion?
I’ve learned a lot in the business and it helps me a lot when I’m in front of a camera. But, no doubt, the best was having anorexia. When I got to the limit I knew how distorted was reality in my head and that I don’t care what others think about what I want.
It’s hard, but I say this to people who felt despised because they wanted something different than the others.
I used make up to be beautiful for the others, I put weights into my vagina to weight what the nurses wanted, and I used to change my big hospital clothes that disimulated my illness to put really adjusted clothes that showed up how thin I was for bookers. It seems I was acting perfectly for the others, but that was killing me. Then you understand you’re perfect when you feel ok, no matter how you are.
I healed because I wanted. I started eating, left fashion, and went to college to become a producer and make my dream come true.
What is like being known as ‘The Goddess’?
Bipolar problem, because no one of the people who know me would name me like that.
It’s something I never think of, to be honest. I know it cames from a photographer, but the truth is that, as much, I’m the chaos goddess.
It’s not worthy, and it’s not good because he wasn’t talking about beauty and that’s what everybody thinks. It depends on what you like, and the normal thing is to think ‘It’s not that much’, and the truth is that I’m not.
What about your artistic name, Paytem Jane. What do you want to express with it?
Since I was little everybody called me ‘Paytom’ and I hated it because I thought it was a boy’s name. In public, I asked everyone to use my first name, because it was easier to me surviving behind Monica. In fact, I’ve been my whole life remembering everybody ‘Monica is my name’. It was an armour, but music has made me find myself and now there is nothing I feel ashamed of. My name’s not feminine, but I can still be sexy.
In the other hand, only my grandmother and my warriors support me in my career, support what I really am, and I think I’m much more honest with them this way. I’m myself!
Paytem, with ‘e’, means ‘warrior’, so I changed it because of the warriors, and I’m using the name of the person that has always loved me for what I am, who I didn’t share surnames with. She has always showed me her love for music, wanted to sing, see her name in an album cover, and she will!
Now I keep on telling everyone: ‘My name is Paytem Jane’
Between 2000 and 2005, your life happens in France, Italy and Germany, is that the reason why you sing in English? Will we be able to hear you singing in Spanish?
Maybe. I was about to record the first one, but it wasn’t the moment. I’m sure one day it will happen.
I started writting in English when I was 7 because of three reasons: because I wanted to sing for everyone, because the boys I used to write about where English-speakers, and because me and my best friend were the only two in our classroom who were able to speak English and I didn’t want anyone to know what was written on it if one day my notebook was stolen.
How woud you define your music?
Indefinable. It’s so personal. I try to sing everything I love, everyting that makes me emotional and makes me feel something. Every song needs its arrangement and they are really, really different between them. When I close the album, I will search the reasons why I wrote them and make them be a part of an all.
My mom didn’t want me to be an artist, but I was born in 85, and I was on the back seat when she played Boney M in the car, along with Abba, The Beatles, Roxette, Madonna, Fangoria… It was like feeding the monster.
But you’ve sang songs like ‘Caro Mio Ben’. Do you consider yourself a versatile artist?
If I say ‘no’, my producers will kill me, because I’m driving them crazy because of this. I love music, I touch everything, and they sometimes lose me.
My grandmother has always played opera and zarzuela (Spanish classical music) since I was very young, and I seriously love it!
I don’t know what songs will finally come out, but they say: ‘We cannot release this, this is not what your fans expect from you’, and I say: ‘Yes, well, we’re making it anyway’.
You’ve released two singles: ‘Irresistible’ and ‘Stupid Groupie’. When are you releasing your first album?
Somebody will hate me for this, but I hope I will happen one day next year… If it depended on  me, we could release 3 albums the day after tomorrow, but there’s always burocracy outside the project that makes everything harder. Releasing is not as easy as it seems, as I thought. There is always any problem.
We’ve seen you singing ‘Born this way’. Will there be any versions in your album?
No. I sang ‘Born this way’ because I was asked to it. But no, I need to do and feel what I sing. And I have enough by trying to get some space to my songs.
The day I sang ‘Born this way’ I noticed it’s not mine, no matter how identified I can fell with the song. The song starts saying ‘my mom told me when I was young we all born superstars’, and while I said that I realised I couldn’t be singing a biggest lie, because anyway it would have be me who said that to my mum.
You’ve got your official webpage, and the fanclub one, but there are many more webpages dedicated to you. How do you feel about all that support?
Very happy, but most of all, very proud of my warriors because I think they do this because they understand all this and feel a part of me. I’m really thankful because I can share my dream with them, because it wasn’t easy fighting alone until now and they make me feel stronger. My dream is that we can leave something together and that they are themselves, no matter what. I would love to make their dreams come true through mine, and that I was the only one who had to suffer all the hitting, the hard times to make them free.
I feel proud because they know what they want and fight for it with me, and that makes them powerful. They express what they want, we’re free. It’s like an army united by love. They support me, I represent them.
How did you came up with the idea of writting a blog in English telling what you’re living?
Because I need direct contact with my fans because, if I want them to live this dream with me, I have to keep them informed! They help me. I even asked for advice to choose my dress in the last event! I need them!
Model, dancer, writer, singer, producer… What’s left to do or what would you like to do?
I’m really nervous and when I can’t go on with music, I entertain myself. I’m starting to design some clothes, but just as a hobby, because I always end tunning every outfit my own way. What’s serious, are the videoclip screenplays, if they are, and the choreographies, that i try then to be as I imagined them when I wrote the song. I choose everyting I can, even the lights. I the end I have a problem and I need to do everything personally and supervise what I couldn’t do since the beginning, but I still need to learn everyting!!
If you had to choose between fashion and music, what would you choose?
If there is any doubt, music ;)
A QUIZ
A dream to make come true?
Just one? Mmm, I want to make a worldwide tour with my songs, but for now, just that somebody feels identified with one of  my songs is enough.
A role model?
Nobody, because nobody has ever made what I want from the poin I was in.
A vice?
Kissing people. When I have someone I trust in, I cant avoid! And buying shoes.
Last book you read?
Federico Moccia’s ‘Scusa Ma Ti Voglio Sposare’
Can’t go out without…
Sunglasses and iPhone.
A lucky charm?
My sennheiser and the warrior’s bracelet.
What do you do before getting into the stage or the runway?
It’s been a while that I don’t get into a runway, but anyway, I wasn’t really excited about it, so I just simply waited for my moment with my headphones between all the people that were running as crazy and making up all the time.
Before singing, I say bye until I get to the stage to my dancers and background singers, I stay alone in a room listening to music and, just before I get out, I make up my lips

Monica Sanz Interview for W Magazine

Today it’s not a common day, and I will not be a common guy. I’m in the Intercontinental in NYC waiting for Monica Sanz. Yes, I have a date with “ The Goddess”. She is in the restaurant. Everyone is looking at her. I’m feeling admired and hated at the same time. She says hello to me with two kisses (she is Spanish) and I check that she is really wonderful in person. She is just perfect. She is beautiful, funny, and…on time. We sit down, recorder machine “on” and we start to talk.

W- It’s a pleasure doing an interview to you, how are you?

MS- Very good, thanks. And you?

W- Intimidated! I’m in front of The Goddess and everyone is looking at us.

MS- Ups! I’m sorry, it will be just 5 minutes, you’ll see!

W- Aren’t you tired of being always observed?

MS- Actually, it’s your fault. They just look at us because there are cameras. This doesn’t happen to me always.

W- However, you are a top model, you are used to cameras…

MS- Above all, photo cameras, of course. After all this time they don’t annoy me and it’s not an effort being natural when there is one.

W- Do you think that being a model you have the obligation of being always perfect and doing the right thing?

MS- No! I’m not perfect and I don’t pretend to be perfect. I don’t pretend seem perfect either. I don’t do always what I must, I do what I feel I have to do. I don’t recommend anyone to do always the right thing.

W- Why?

MS- Doing always the right thing hasn’t got any reward or any risk of failure and can make you feel stupid. It’s no sense.

W- Do you act by impulses?

MS- Very often. Although I would say by intuition.

W- It’s said you have a German head and a Spanish heart…

MS- It could be. I suppose that they say that because I let myself go and I follow what I want but my head helps me to be prudent and tidy to take decisions.

W- Have you got clear ideas of what you want?

MS- Yes, since I was a child.

W- Have you got it?

MS- Not yet but it’s because I want a lot of things.

W- However, you didn’t want to be a model and you have become “The Goddess”, muse of designers and photographers…

MS- Sometimes things don’t happen as you wish! (laughs)

W- So if you would have wished it…

MS- Maybe I wouldn’t have got anything. Life is like that! I became a model wishing it or not, and I think whatever you do, you have to do your best. I’m grateful for the chance they gave me because it has taught me a lot.

W- But I see that neither the spotlights nor the flashes have dazzled you to forgive the music…

MS- Not at all.

W- When are you going to lock yourself in the studio?

MS- As I said to you, it will be by intuition. When I feel a project mine or I identify myself completely with it, I will do it. I don’t want anything pre- made, or made quickly to sell or fulfill. For me it will be something very personal. I even would tell you that I’m more intimidated for telling or singing what I feel in a song than appearing naked in the front page of a magazine. Dancing and singing , something that comes out from you…that shows more from you.

W- But your CD could work in America. In Germany they have asked you for it…aren’t you scared of loosing fans for waiting too much?

MS- I’m very grateful to the fans and I respect them a lot. That same respect makes me believe that if must be a CD, must be one made to measure. They deserve a careful, elaborate product and I will dedicate myself completely during a period of time. If I see I can’t do anything really good, I prefer not to do it. I don’t care a lot if it’s liked or not, but I care if it’s well made or not.

W- Have you had any offer to bring out this CD, the moment hasn’t arrived?

MS- No. Some things must happen before that. Firstly, I have to finish all the closed commitments, because they have already trusted in me. I have to be sure 100% that I can dance. I’m completely recovered from my injury but I have to recover the dancer form. I keep the voice because I train it every day with my canto teacher and my “vocal couch”. Finally, it would be fundamental receive the offer from the right people. People who I would trust to make this project. If I work in the music world, it’s for being a singer, not a model who bring out a CD.

W- It’s true that you have very clear ideas…

MS- And I’m a bit stubborn…

W- You have a very tidy head, in your everyday life have you got everything so clear?

MS- Most of the things, yes. Above all, important decisions. But later I spend two hours choosing a T-shirt…

W- Have you ever want to become a designer?

MS- Yes, but that’s very far now. Maybe when I settle my life more.

W- Don’t you like travelling?

MS- Yes, I love it.

W- What conclusion comes out after knowing a lot of places?

MS- That I have a lot of more places to know and that everyone is the same deep down.

W- Tell me a place where you would lose yourself…

MS- Alone? A big city with a lot of shops, as NY.

W- Do you finish with all the things in the shops (I look at her impeccable look).

MS- Not as you are thinking about it! (I’ve been caught)

W- Do you spend a lot of money in clothes?

MS- No, not much. I buy what I like or what I need but I don’t get crazy about it.

W- Does Monica Sanz know how much money has she got in the bank?

MS- Yes.

W- Sure?

MS- More or less, yes.

W- Is more than you wished? (I noticed she is uncomfortable because of the question and she let me know).

MS- I don’t like talking about money. It makes me feel very nervous and I don’t think anyone cares if I’m rich or not. Anyway, I never dreamt being rich, but working in what I like.

W- Talking about interest, why don’t you give more interviews?

MS- I prefer appearing just when I have to tell something important. For example, the photo shooting “My bed is my studio” which I loved making it.

W- Sure! In fact, that was my excuse to be in front of you today…

MS- You have forgotten it, huh?

W- No, I let it for the end. ( Smart girl. She has directed the conversation). It’s a very intimate campaign…

MS- It is. The photos are very personal for being a campaign. The lingerie was perfect and I think the simple line of the sets contrast with the shots. The B/W and just one complement, the duvet make the lingerie the main protagonist in the images. I loved the collection. The soft, smooth and simple fabrics. It covers you but not much and without showing too much. It’s sexy and confortable. It doesn’t mark you. Perfect for any situation!

W- Do you like lingerie?MS- A lot. You have to be well dressed also inside. There is so beautiful lingerie that must be shown in the street.

W- (“Many men would be grateful for that” think for myself) You look amazing with it. (She gets red)

MS- Thanks…

W- Have you ever thought that your photos are seen for many women and men that desire you and can even fantasize with you?MS- No! I have thought when the photos are published they can be reviewed and I’m embarrassed for that…

W- You must think about the other part too…

MS- I don’t think that can happen and don’t know…I prefer let it go. (Laughs)

W- You are getting red, has the top models complex?

MS- Everyone has them! In general, I’m glad of myself, but I think that is healthy find in you some weaknesses. It helps you to know yourself better and you have to know how to laugh about it too.

W- In the photos we can’t see yours, you must be happy with the result, dont you?

MS- Thanks. Yes, you can always do it better, but yes.

W- Permanyer says that you are like a panther: defiant, intimidating, dangerous…

MS- Really?

W- Yes, but he says is just until someone knows you and I admit that I have seen it and I agree…You impress people at first sight.

MS- I’m sorry, I don’t want it and I don’t like it. I’m not a cold and distant person, in fact I’m the opposite. But you are not the first one in telling me that. I think it’s because at first I’m very shy and my insecurity makes me be a bit distant just in case, but I trust in people soon.

W- Would you trust me another interview when you get ready for another project?

MS- Sure!

First interview to Monica Sanz

Being a successful top model as you are, you know about the rule of the body mass on the catwalk…have you ever had problems with that? What do you think about this rule?

That’s a good question. Although I could spend hours talking about this, the truth is that this rule is not applied in most of the internationals fashion shows. Personally, I haven’t had problems with that but I think it’s difficult to control all the girls according to general figures. Each girl is totally different and I know colleagues who don’t reach the minimum allowed and they are completely healthy. However, others have perfect measures and BMI and also have food disorders. I think they should value other things as each girl constitution or her mental health. The problem is that it’s socially understood that a model has the perfect body and it’s not. The perfect general measures don’t exist. For me, the perfect body is the one which allows you to be healthy and do everything normally including breathing, eating, seeing, etc. A perfect body is the one which allows you live without taking so much care of it.

Each person has his own perfect body, measures, and BMI when he is completely healthy. Anyway, if this rule helps to avoid food disorders I suppose it’s good, although for me, a lot of times it’s just another advertising and controversial method to promote the fashion show. And here we can talk if you want why this rule is not applied in international fashion shows.

Although you collaborate with campaigns against anorexia, have they ever told you you are too slim or have they ever called you anorexic? What do you think about this?

Well, I don’t know if you know that I suffered from anorexia. I’m not proud of it but I’m not embarrassed either. It’s a serious problem and a mental problem too. In fact, I think you never give it up completely. Of course, they have told me anorexic many times and a lot of people have told me I’m too slim. Even my cousin called me “spaghetti”. However, when I was 15 and with 47 kilograms a Spanish designer called me “fat dwarf”…you see!

I ask if someone knows someone with anorexia, bulimia or other food disorder, have a lot of patience and understanding with her/him and ask for help to professional people, it’s the only way. It’s not just saying “if you eat, you will be OK”, it’s not that easy… And the fact is that “a bit fat” girl can also have anorexia and no all the slim girls have to have it…

Probably you know about the new Spanish size system, in it women are classified as bells, diabolos or cylinders, what do you think about this? What kind of woman do you think you are?

For me, this is the most horrible thing I’ve ever read! There are as many kind of women as women in the world…

And about your question, I’m supposed to be a diabolo but my breast is 2 centimeters smaller than my hip. Maybe that turn me into a funnel…

Lot of media , people… blame fashion world, advertisements and woman stereotype showed in magazines for anorexia, bulimia, and teenagers problems and disorders, how does this affect you? What do you think?

As I said before, it’s a mistake. Depending on what you want to do with your life, you will have to prepare your body in one way or another. And you have to consider your physical faculties too. For instance: I’m slim but I will never win a medal as a gymnast. I’m not tall enough to play basketball. And I haven’t got strength to throw anything…

I assure you that if a model has health problems, she doesn’t work! Not because they don’t let her work, but because she can’t. For being a model you have to have a lot of resistance and strength, although it doesn’t seem so… you would be surprised if you knew how difficult is to take each photo!

When you see a magazine, you should think that a model is ready for the object and it’s going to be seen just what she wants to, and the make up and the light are perfect! Regardless whether we take care of ourselves, etc.

You are a great model, you have an amazing body, and you easily can occupy the mind and the heart of a lot of men but, is there a man who occupy this space for you?

Wow! Thank you very much for all the compliments!!! Don’t think being a model helps me to make out with someone…not at all! Actually, boys don’t usually get closer to me. And about the question, well, yes, a lot of men occupy my heart: my father, my brother…

What is your favourite designer? And your favourite garment?

It depends on the garment a lot. For example I love Religión jeans, Dior, Valentino, Ellieb Saab or Versace night dresses, La Perla and Victoria’s Secret swimming costumes and lingerie, Jimmy Choo shoes…you have told me one of my favourite topics!

My favourite garment is the high-heeled shoes, with no doubt. I think you can dress up bad but if your shoes are OK, you fix the disaster!

Have you ever been naked in a photo shooting?

Yes, but just covering myself. And if it would be needed to help a good cause, I will do it, with no doubt, with a good photography and always stylish and beautiful.

A model you admire or inspire you.

There are a lot, but if I have to choose one: a Spanish one, Eugenia Silva and in the rest of the world, it would probably be Alessandra Ambrosio. But I insist, there are a lot!

If they would give you the chance to spend a whole day with your idol, who would you choose?

Michael Jackson, with no doubt. Although I’m thinking about a lot of people who I would like to talk to, for me it would be a childhood dream come true.

If you would go to a dessert island, what two things would you carry with you? (and food and drink don’t count,LOL)

Doesn’t use to be 3? Well, as you have given to me food and drinks, I would carry my sun cream lotion and a Victoria’s secret bikini just in case I find a pirate! (laughs)

What you wouldn’t do, even paying you?

I couldn’t betray someone never, either my own principles. For me, sincerity, trusting in someone and faithfulness are very very important.

What do you think about your own fan club?

You make me feel so happy! Just thinking that one person in the world like what I do is amazing. I’m very excited and very proud of you! I love all you do: the web, the welcomes, your letters, the media mess…! (laughs)

Sometimes, journalists and photographers call me telling me that you have called them or they are amazed for something you have done and I cry, everything is so beautiful…keep on doing this and for they…tough! (laughs)

The best of all is thinking that in some way, you have joined some people and they spend a great time doing things together or talking about what you do.

It’s difficult that a model has a fan club so, I’m amazed for having the luck of having you next to me and if I think about it I have vertigo. I mostly consider you part of the team in each photo shooting!

At the same time it is a huge responsibility, I’m scared of disappointing you or giving you a bad example. Now, the consequences of everything I do are higher.

You are something huge, very important for me. Since you are here, you have given to me a new sense in my job and I feel more strength and more support than never.

I can keep on talking for hours and I won’t be able to thank you everything you have done for me. Above all, I’m proud of you and you will always have a huge part of my heart. Thank you very much to all of you!

Do you miss Spain when you are travelling around the world?

A lot, you can’t imagine how much I miss it! The food, the climate, the people, the ham (laughs)…I love travelling and knowing places but Spain is my place, it’s my country, here is everything! And Spanish people are different, and a lot of people say this not only me! I love arriving somewhere and say that I’m Spanish!

What is your favourite food?

It’s easy captivating me with food. I like everything and I taste everything! I love oriental food and exquisiteness, but if you give me a fried egg with fries I love eating that!

What do you do in your spare time?

What time? If I have spare time to be alone in the hotel room I write, listen to music… If you are referring to having free days to spend with people, it changes! I love doing things with my friends as going to safaris, riding horses, or just going to the cinema! But I can’t go out with them to parties because I usually go to many…and I’m tired of them.

Interview to Monica Sanz in El Fiesta nº6

As we announced, Monica Sanz is on the cover of “El Fiesta” on their december’s cover.

In the magazine, you’ll find…an exclusive interview and new pictures from Monica Sanz!

What does music means for you?

It’s everything, I can’t live without it. I think life is impossible without music y every moment of our life has a particular OST. Whatever I do, I do it always singing, touching everything to make new rhythms…I disconnected thinking about music. Music make me alive, make me remember people, moments. It’s difficult to impress me without music.

Is there any genre you’ll like to try?

When something catches my attention, I prove it directly. I’ve done so different things, but flamenco is something that I don’t think I would ever try. I love it, I enjoy it so much, but I think that you should take it in and I’m not very “flamenca”…

A lot of people from out of Spain, ask me continually to introduce flamenco, thinking that just for being spanish, I had learned it in kindergarten.

The truth is that, although in some moments you can see my Spanish influence, I don’t think I’ll prove it, for respect to all flamenco artist and because I don’t have any charm!

How many hours do you spend rehearsing the staging?

All the time I had until the gig! If there are months, then months. Never is enough. Always you can go further. Sometimes I prepare the staging only “just in case”, because I don’t like to improvise, although other times, I can end the performance at the edge of a heart attack because I don’t trust that all will have had time to have it all.

Besides, I can make people go crazy because I change everything all the time, if not, I get bored!

What are your upcoming projects?

I can’t say so much, but my priority now is to achieve my album production. I know that it’s an album complicated to release, it needs a a high budget that right now is not easy tp have in the industry, but the idea is stuck in my head and I’ll try to release it!

Your fanclub wanted to participate in this number from El Fiesta asking four questions selected from all the received, that we have to say, they were a lot.

What process do you follow to choose your next single? What criteria do you used when selecting a single?

No one from the team makes filling songs, so any song can be a single or stay in the drawer. When they tell me that it’s time to choose, I send the one I’d like to hear in that moment. In fact, the second single would not have been “Stupid Groupie” and I didn’t know which one I’ll release until two weeks before.

In every working day there are new songs, new ideas, when do you think you could say that the album is finally finished?

By number of songs, last year it could have been released. The problem is on the production. Once we know if there’s going to be album or not, we’ll have to wait the time it takes to be produced.

I know I’m asking to much but I need my fans to be patients and that they understand how difficult it is. I have to work with so many people and convince many more. It may seem I’m doing anything because you can’t see the behind the scenes working, but I don’t stop. It’s possible that is my fault because I’m so maniacal and I attempt to control everything.

In the digital meet, you said that when it’s time to act, nor Irresistible, neither Stupid Groupie, were the styles with which you feel the most comfortable. So, what is the style that you like singing the most?

I love to sing jazz, lyric, blues, sould, and the more, rock. It doesn’t mean I only make this, or that I don’t want to sing the singles. I simply think that Irresistible or Stupid Groupie are better songs for others things, like staging, etc. They are more complete to act, but I don’t sing them at home!

Singing is what I like the most in the world, so whenever they let me, I sing, whatever!

We know that you have recorded so many songs…we have known your naughty side with Irresistible and all the opposite with Stupid Groupie. The rest of the song…What they talk about?

About everything! They are songs about almost everything that happens to me and those things that happened to me are so strange, so… Everything I love, makes me angry or everything that passionate me, is reflected! There are songs about some persons too… and even Diva has her song!

There is a future visit to Spain prepared to meet your fans?

It can be…I’m not sure if I have to go to Spain soon, but I’ll love to take a visit to meet my fans there.

What do you feel when you step on stage?

Nerves, a bit of vertigo. Sometimes I can’t stop laughing before going up on stage. Everybody starts to say to me all the things I have to do, that I can’t forget, etc y I only think: “you’ll see what mess you’re causing!” I think everybody is afraid of me and they are not calm until everything finishes.

What is in the first thing that you think about the scene?

I am unconscious. You don’t think so much, you just feel and the rest works out alone. When the public gives all, everything flows.

When the public submits, everything flows. The principal goal is to achieve, during the time that the performance lasts, a parallel universe. Make everybody believe in magic is most important thing.

Did you said Mum! I want to be an artist!?

Not exactly. I used to say: Mum! I’m going to be an artist! In my family, they don’t like all this, but they were warned! If they didn’t believe me, is their problem. No one can say I didn’t warn about it!

What do you do during your free time?

My free time is never free because I’m always available for my producers, agents, etc. I never disconnect completely and I make it pleased. When I’m not busy I spend my time with my people whatever it is what they have to do. If I’m to far and I can travel with them, these moments are the moments in which my coach decided to make my life impossible, and then I realize how much I love not to be free ever! If not, I’m always writing, dancing, trying to cook without burning the kitchen …

The best of my free moments is to read my fans, I read everything that they write to me and I try to answer to their letters, etc. I promise myself to read more answers on twitter. I love seeing my fans together, is like having a separate family.

Our friend Jhonny Nacimiento have wanted to collaborate with us in this interview by sending four questions for you. Jhonny feels so proud for being the first one that presented Irresistible to the world and for being the first one who make an interview to you as a singer and that’s because he have a special affection to you. (He is sending a big hug to you)

What balance would you do about what you have experienced musically until now?

First of all, a biiiig kiss, Jhonny!

It has been like a dream, well, it’s a dream! Everything so positive! Is the most enriching experiencia I’ve ever lived! I feel so blessed and I’ve know sensations completely new for me. It has been a liberation, I needed it! But this has only just begun!

What importance have your fans in your life?

All of it and I get surprise because each day, more. When I think I’m at the limit with them, they overcome it. They are the most important thing because without them, there’s nothing. My worry for not disappointing them continues growing because they give it all. I will be always in debt with them.

It is important the humility in an artist?

Yes, the humility and the respect are essential. You can’t forget where do you come from. It is true that I took classes of singing and dance thanks to my parents, but the truth is that when I began I was a street dancer. I danced with my friends in parks and streets full of drug addicts and slightly advisable people. And I know that now there are still a lot of people with talent that can only dance there, so I’m conscious of all the chances and all the luck I have.

I think that I wouldn’t value all that if I hadn’t found it hard to obtain it. For example, If I had autoproduced my album. It is a business but think that everything’s possible with money is a mistake. You need to live real blows to learn and live all that the exasperating moments. You suffer but the music compensates everything.

It’s important that you don’t go crazy and that somebody tells you to stop or says things the way they are. It’s a complicated business.

It is important that you do not turn madman and beech anybody who stops you or says the things to you since they are. There is in game much more than money: the dreams and illusions of many persons: you and those who are there for you. You can’t fail, you can’t believe anything, then you fall down. If I don’t achieve my objective with the album, honestly, I’m more worried about the disillusion and disappointment of my fans with me, that about my own fall.

In my case, it’s so soon for something like this to happen but the day that I says a stupidity, my assistant will shout to me. She’s the one that more watches over me and the one who lived all my blows of stress and anxiety, so I am called her affectionately ” the punching “.

Do you think that you have something that to improve professionally?

Absolutely everything! You always can and should improve. And I’m glad to have so much to improve because to touch ceiling with two singles in the street would mean to be a disaster. It’s a long way career, you don’t have to improve only, you have to evolve.

With what singer or group would you like to sing?

Every day I admire more people. I don’t think that it is possible ever but I would like to sing with Celine Dion, with ACDC, with Plácido Domingo or Chester Bennington, for example!

What is the nicer thing that a fan has done for you?

To have faith in me whatever happens and to approach me! I’m thankful for all the presents and all that, but I hate when people asks if they can approach me, maybe they are scared to do it, but I love to meet them! I understand that bodyguards impose but if not, I don’t find out! I love to meet my fans, to feel them nearby, thay they write to me or shout…whatever!

What do you think about Amigos del Fiesta.com?

I would like that there would be more platforms like this one. Not only for the artist, also for the support towards the fanclubs. I hope that you could help a lot of people that has so much to give and don’t have the means to show it.

Hope there were more persons that were interested in the music as you. I wish you to grow very much, that you get compensate for the whole help and to enjoy our work. Ah! And to repeat with you soon!
